PASAY CITY, Philippines, 25 May 2019 — In partnership with Children’s Hour and the Department of Education (DepEd), over 70 volunteers from Sun Life of Canada – Philippines (Sun Life) painted 10 classrooms and 450 chairs in Jose Rizal Elementary school as the employees take part in this year’s Brigada Eskwela.
The annual DepEd-initiated Brigada Eskwela mobilizes volunteers and partners for the benefit of public schools and its population. Over 70 Sun Life financial advisers and managers gathered to work together for the benefit of the students of Jose Rizal Elementary School in Pasay City.
The volunteers painted 10 classrooms and 450 chairs, just in time for the incoming school year. The newly-painted chairs and walls will provide a fresh learning environment for the students so they can perform better in school. With the rehabilitation of these learning spaces, students will become more keen to learn and achieve more in their studies.
“I'm just happy because I'm able to join [a] league of volunteers from Sun Life and the teachers from the school para sa activity na 'to [for this activity],” said Sun Life volunteer James in his vlog. “Nakakatuwa na marami pa rin palang gustong tumulong para matupad yung mga pangarap ng mga batang ito. [It’s heartwarming that there are still a lot of people who want to help these children achieve their hopes and dreams.]”
Sun Life has been a consistent Children's Hour Champion, recently turning over classrooms in Isabela and Cagayan for their Project 120 Classrooms .
Children’s Hour envisions a nation where Filipino children have access to their basic rights, such as the right to education, which will allow them to enjoy a happy, safe, and fulfilling future. This is achieved with the help of the foundation’s One Hour Campaign, where they invite individuals and companies to donate at least an hour’s worth of their annual salary. With your continuous support, Children’s Hour can help more children nationwide to achieve their dreams.
