Last February 23, 2018, Children’s Hour Philippines and Sun Life Foundation successfully turned 6 of the 10 classrooms that will be built in the province of Camarines Sur as part of their 3rd Phase of Project 120 Classrooms.
The beneficiaries of these classrooms are Bagacay Elementary School and Malibtong Elementary School which are located in Tinambac, Camarines Sur. One of the foundation’s biggest educational infrastructure projects, Project 120 Classrooms is their partnership with Sun Life Foundation that aims to provide 120 classrooms for public schools all around the Philippines that are impoverished and/or have been ravaged by major natural disasters.
Children’s Hour Philippines was represented by its Asst. Executive Director, Ms.Ovy Javier who was very grateful for the schools’ teachers, parents and students because they give meaning and purpose for the foundation.
Sun Life Foundation was represented by its President, Mr. Alex Narciso. As a former teacher, he imparted some inspirational words for the students: “If you keep on dreaming, and hopefully sundan niyo yan ng disiplina at pag-aaral, pati na rin ang paggamit ng mga classrooms; yung inyong mga pinapangarap ay magkakaroon ng pag-asa na makamit.”
The program was concluded by 11-year old “Reymer” who was the President of the Supreme Pupil Government of Bagacay E.S.: “Hindi kaila sa ating lahat na ang edukasyon ay mabisang lunas sa kahirapan. Isang pamanang taglay, hanggang may hininga. Kung kaya’t nararapat din po na ang mga kabataang katulad ko, nila ay mabigyan ng sapat na edukasyon: maayos na silid-aralan, mga guro, at makabagong kurikulum na aakma sa pangangailangan ng mga bata tungo sa pagkatuto at pag-abot ng pangarap”.
After the program Children’s Hour Philippines distributed 100 school kits each for Bagacay Elementary School and Malibtong Elementary school. Sun Life Foundation also hosted a Financial Literacy Workshop for the parents, teachers and students of Bagacay Elementary School to educate them on the value of saving and making their money grow. Phase 3 of the Project 120 Program also aims to build 4 more classrooms for the province of Camarines Sur (namely in Canayonan E.S. and San Vicente E.S.) as well as 10 classrooms in Capiz and 5 in Leyte for a total of 25 Classrooms.
