In November 8, 2013, Super Typhoon Yolanda (Typhoon Haiyan) made landfall on the Philippines and became the most destructive typhoon to hit the country. The super typhoon left a trail of damage, to infrastructures, lives lost, and trauma to its victims.
Bateria Elementary School in Daanbantayan, Cebu was one of the schools that were devastated by the typhoon. The children's second home was destroyed as strong winds came in. This left the children of Bateria without a safe learning environment where they could pursue their dreams.
As we commemorate the 6th anniversary of this tragedy, we remember how we came together as one for the Filipino people, keeping the spirit of Bayanihan very much alive. Through the kindness and generosity of our partners, we were able to rebuild Bateria Elementary School and give back the gift of learning to its children.
Our ONEderful Stories share the narratives of the people whose lives have been touched by Children's Hour. We tell stories of their struggles and how they have risen above to achieve their dreams. Stories of camaraderie and bayanihan to help uplift the lives of fellow Filipinos. These stories highlight the importance of empowering Filipino children so that they can aspire and dream as we do, to make a difference in this world.
